Shawn Levy's 'Night at the Museum' should not work at all. On the surface, it reads as a CGI-laden, lowest common denominator-targeting, overly kid-friendly adventure that may succeed at the box office while failing in terms of actual, memorable quality or spirit. Thankfully, the film shrugs off the ringing bells of soulless, corporate enterprise, and, though it may still be a CGI-laden, kid-friendly adventure, it is also a satisfyingly good ride. The story revolves around Ben Stiller's put-upon dad who must secure a job in order to retain partial custody, not to mention the respect of, his son. Taking a position as a night watchmen at a natural history museum, Stiller's security guard watches as the displays come to life •.
